Moringa Chips: The Recipe
October 11, 2023
Moringa chips are an irresistible dish that can be served as an appetizer or side dish. They are healthy and delicious and taste almost the same as industrial potato chips (but much more authentic).
Aside from their delicious taste, the chips are also rich in valuable nutrients.
Moringa chips, the properties
4 times more beta-carotene than carrots, 7 times more vitamin C than oranges, 17 times more calcium than milk, 46 antioxidants, all essential amino acids - these are some of the properties of Moringa Oleifera.
Rich in vitamin A, B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B9), vitamin C, minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium and zinc, it has 36 anti-inflammatory active ingredients, including quercetin and caffeic acid, as well as 30% vegetable protein.
Moringa contributes to the maintenance of healthy cells and its properties are also due to its enormous content of omega-3 fatty acids, essential for the good functioning of the cardiovascular system.
Adding moringa powder to some recipes in the recommended amount of 8 grams (equivalent to a heaped tablespoon) means enriching them with a health-promoting contribution without sacrificing taste.
Moringa chips: preparation
Ingredients for the seasoning oil:
1 teaspoon moringa powder;
1 teaspoon garlic powder;
1 teaspoon fenugreek;
1 teaspoon of natural flavor enhancer (available at the pharmacy);
1 teaspoon Himalayan salt or iodized salt;
5 tablespoons high quality olive or linseed oil.
Mix the ingredients to prepare the seasoning oil. Cut the potatoes into very thin slices, dip them in the oil and let them dry at 42°C.
Why are industrially produced potato chips considered unhealthy?
Frying in oil, which is often low-quality and heated to 170°C, leads to the formation of acrylamide in starchy foods such as potatoes, a type of plastic that can attach to the intestinal and blood vessel walls and has tumor-promoting effects.*
